Kanop has partnered with Wovoka to provide comprehensive technical support for their 13,000-hectare reforestation project in Mindoro, Philippines, including VM0047 eligibility, dynamic baselines, and carbon projections for their Symbiosis Coalition submission. The partnership extends beyond this initial project, with plans to integrate field data for model recalibration and serve as a blueprint for scaling high-integrity restoration across the Philippines and Southeast Asia

At Kanop, our mission is to support those working tirelessly to protect and restore ecosystems. That is why we are excited to announce our partnership with Wovoka, and to share more about the work we’ve been doing together.

Wovoka is a restoration company building science-based, community-led reforestation projects designed to meet the highest standards of the voluntary carbon market. Their approach centers on delivering climate impact alongside key co-benefits like biodiversity, local livelihoods, and equitable governance. Wovoka starts with the land steward at the core and helps those stewards assess the opportunities for restoration, protection, and business opportunities centered around agroforestry and sustainable land-use.

Our partnership began as Wovoka was preparing to submit their 13,000-hectare reforestation project in Mindoro, Philippines to the Symbiosis Coalition’s Reforestation and Agroforestry RFP.

For those not yet familiar, the Symbiosis Coalition is a global initiative seeking out the highest-integrity nature-based solutions, with the goal of funding projects that lay the groundwork for a trustworthy, climate-aligned voluntary carbon market.

To support Wovoka’s submission, Kanop delivered technical assistance across several fronts: confirming eligibility under the VM0047 methodology, developing a dynamic baseline, ensuring compatibility with the ABACUS label, and producing carbon crediting projections. These tools help strengthen confidence for investors and offtakers seeking science-backed, verifiable impact.

But our work together doesn’t stop there. As Wovoka collects extensive field data on the ground, we’ll be integrating those insights to recalibrate our remote sensing models, tailoring them to the unique characteristics of the Mindoro ecosystem. Looking ahead, we hope this project will serve as a blueprint for scaling high-integrity restoration across the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

“Wovoka is proud to work with Kanop to provide a credible 3rd party estimate of carbon potential. We are excited to find a team as relentlessly focused on scientific integrity and speed to actionable output as our field-based Wovoka team” said Lee Pearson, CEO of Wovoka

Wovoka has a powerful vision and a strong pipeline of community-rooted projects. We’re proud to stand alongside them, and excited to support their journey to restore landscapes and support the planet.
